Standing in lonely majesty against the waves are two tall pillars of green and blue, carven in the shape of seahorses. If one waits long enough, until the waters pull back with the tide, the reason for their lonely sentry becomes clear as a wide avenue of stone appears bewteen them after the water's recession.
The avenue leads out from the shore, and then vanishes under the waves, stairs leading down into the crystalline waters. Upon the top step is carved "Faiella-bionin dan-y Cwm Sireddan Dirwn." If one knows the watery words of the Rebman tongue, it is "The Walk Below the Waves down to the Valley of Drowned Sorrows."
Few descend the Faiella-bionin, for it is un-nerving to those who spend little time there; being enclosed below the waves, the transition as the waters fill one's lungs... For those not born of the sea's arms, such is known to cause small shudders of revulsion at the very mention.
The smooth marble of the staircase slopes down the side of a deep drop-off, cutting through the tangled world of the Failebwyn, the great barrier reef that edges the lip of the Sireddan Dirwn, a natural impediment to any who might think to enter uninvited.
The journey is long, and eventually the light fades to a dim illumination. Then, from below the light brightens, and the end of the stais can be seen, between a matching pair of pillars to the ones above the surface.
Welcome to Rebma.
The Faiella-Bionin descends down the slope of the Sireddan Dirwn. For
those not born of the sea, this ancient artifact is the only way to enter
Rebma safely, for it is enchanted to allow those of non-Rebman blood to
breathe the water. Though it is said Rebman may bestow this enchantment
on another with a kiss.
About the lip of the Sireddan Dirwn, close to the
surface, is a great barrier reef, the Failebwyn. Almost a mile wide at
pints, and no narrower than a quarter mile at any point, it is an
daunting guard against outside invasion into the underwater kingdom.
Ships cannot sail over it, and to those who do not know it ways and paths
and the creatures who make it their home, it is quite dangerous.
Over time though, each city has evolved and it is now much easier to see
the differences than the similarities.
The city of Rebma has grown around the castle and its grounds. The Castle
is now at the heart of this bustling town, that thrives on the trade
contracts it has secured from Amber and many of the Golden Circle
shadows.
The Castle is a busy, bustling place. Entertainments, galas, aprties and
the like are held much more often than in Amber, and the castle and its
inhabitents are not nearly so removed from the city, as their shore-bound
counterpart.
The Faiella-bionin, the Sireddan Dirwn, and the
Failebwyn
Rebma sits in the bottom deep depression, an underwater
valley known as the Sireddan Dirwn, or the Valley of Drowned Sorrows.
Legend says that the valley was the place where the Unicorn's first tear
fell, and that Her tears are the waters of the sea.City Rebma
If one looks closely at the layout of the city of Rebma, one can see the
similarities it bears to city Amber. And if one is of a scholarly nature,
and digs through the history books and such, one will find that millenia
ago, the cities were identical.
Castle Rebma
As the city has changed from its original mirror of Amber, so has the
castle. You can see some of the original architectural style in the lines
of the buildings, but it has shifted and flowd into different forms, much
like the water that surrounds it.
